Vernon Ecton, 87, of Augusta, KS, passed away Friday, September 11, 2020 at home. Visitation Tuesday 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Graveside service 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2020, at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta, KS. Out of respect to those family members with high risk health issues, please wear a mask and socially distance yourselves. It is important to us and we thank you for it. Vernon was born in Squires, Missouri on February 21, 1933, to the late Isa J. (Mallonee) and Lewis W. Ecton. He retired from the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War. Vernon owned and operated auto body repair businesses in Augusta. On January 2, 1954 he married Violet Louise "Lou" (Shelton) Ecton in Wichita, KS. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Willis and Raymond Ecton and a sister Wanda Cunningham. He is survived by: daughters, Joann Ecton and Theresa J. "T.J." Merry; sister, Jeannie Robb; brother, Larry Ecton; son/grandson, Michael Ecton; and grandchildren, Taryn Reilly and Tyler Hoge. Memorial donations to Wounded Warriors Project P.O.
