Terry Smith Obituary

Terry Dee Smith, 72, of Augusta, KS passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. There will be a private family service at Headley Funeral Chapel with the burial being at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta. Terry was born in El Dorado, KS on July 27, 1948 to the late Margie Abigail (Pritchett) and Wayne Smith. He was raised in Cassoday, KS before moving to El Dorado in 1962 and graduating from El Dorado High School in 1966. While in high school Terry enjoyed sports and played on the EHS Basketball team. Terry served in the U. S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He graduated from Pittsburg State University with a master's degree in teaching. Terry worked as a welding instructor and later department chair and dean over construction at Wichita Area Technical College. His artistry talents led him to start, Buffalo Road Originals, Inc., where he made artwork collectibles in metal art of candles pieces, knives, replicated peace pipes, and much more. The best thing in his life was his family. On August 6, 1967 he married Judy (Elam) in El Dorado. He and his wife Judy had two wonderful sons and enjoyed teaching them, telling stories, hunting, shooting, and coaching baseball. He had many good friends that he hunted and shot sporting clays with. Terry is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bob and Ed; and son, Mike. He is survived by his wife, Judy; son, Jason and wife Rosita; sisters; Virginia Kimball and Betty Byfield; granddaughters, Maddy and Evie; grandsons, Zack, Brandon, Tyler, Dominic, and Oliver. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Light the Night Walk. In Terry's words, "The Leukemia/Lymphoma Society and Light the Night Walk are personally important to me because in 2013 I was diagnosed with acute leukemia. My condition quickly worsened and doctors agreed that my only chance for survival was a stem cell transplant. I have lived a pretty normal life for my age and enjoy life each day because of my donor, family, friends, and God's will. PLEASE CONSIDER BECOMING A POTENTIAL STEM CELL DONOR by going to BE THE MATCH.ORG.
It's a simple process with a cheek swab.  If you have leukemia, stay hopeful and fight for the gift of life".
