Joanne Johnson Obituary

Joanne R. Johnson, 93, died September 3, 2023 at her home in Augusta Kansas.  Her funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 16, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Augusta, followed by internment at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.
Joanne was born on September 18, 1929 in Virgil, Kansas to George and Ruth Rose.  After graduating from Virgil High School in 1947, she moved to Wichita to work as a nanny and later a secretary at Boeing, until she met Tom A. Johnson.  Tom and Joanne were married on March 20, 1951.  They moved to Augusta in 1954, where Joanne devoted her time to raising their two boys, Dennis and Tim.  Joanne dedicated her life to her family, and had an unmatched amount of love and pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She enjoyed visiting with and learning about others, and could recall with precise detail the things she was told.  Beyond spending time with family and friends, she enjoyed basketball, especially KU basketball.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom; her sister, Mary Hill; and her great grandchild, Braden Penwell.
She is survived by her sons, Dennis (Dayna) Johnson of Norman, Oklahoma, and Tim (Michelle) Johnson of Augusta; her sister, Peggy Bjork of Wichita; her grandchildren, Jandalen Howell of Spanish Fork, Utah, Dylan (Brandi) Johnson of Norman, Oklahoma, Jeremy Johnson of Norman, Oklahoma, Thomas and Michael Johnson both of Augusta; great-grandchildren, Gabriel Saltsman and Madalyn Penwell both of Spanish Fork, Utah, Chrisitan Mireles, Edie and Coda Johnson all of Norman, Oklahoma.
Memorial donations may be made to Headley Funeral Chapel to be used for a scholarship fund for an Augusta High School student who plans to attend KSU or KU.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
