James Mark Obituary

James Stuart Mark, 92, of Augusta, KS, passed away Friday, July 27, 2018 at home surrounded by his family. Visitation will be just prior to the service. Service 2 p.m.  Saturday, August 4, 2018, at First Christian Church, Augusta, KS. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery Augusta, Kansas. Stuart was born in Augusta, Kansas on October 26, 1925, to the late Anna Mary Salomea (Rockenbach) and William Tierney Mark. Before graduating high school, he served in the U.S. Army as a Tech 4 tank driver during WWII. He received a purple heart and served in Asiatic/Pacific campaigns including the Northern Solomon Islands and Luzon. After returning from the service he graduated Augusta High School in 1945. Stuart was employed at Mobil Oil Refinery for 42 years, working in many areas and retiring as a supervisor. He was the last person to walk out of the refinery after closing in Augusta in 1983. Stuart learned how to fly and was a pilot from 1947 to 1948, He also enjoyed woodworking. On July 16, 1953 he married Bernita (Stevens) Mark in First Christian Church, Augusta. After retirement they enjoyed traveling. Bernita preceded him in death in 2002. Stuart was also preceded in death by his brothers, Harold and Raymond Mark; sister, Dorothy Rockenbach; and a grandson, Mark Wayne Corbin. Stuart is survived by his daughters, Vickie Eaton and husband Jim of Kansas City, KS;  Karen Corbin and husband Ted of El Dorado; and Peggy Mark of Augusta; 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Memorial donations to First Christian Church 1600 State Street Augusta, KS 67010.
