George Kirts Obituary

George Edward Kirts of Cumming, Iowa passed away, Wednesday, October 4, 2023 in Augusta, Kansas.

George was born to Harold and LaVerne Kirts on July 17, 1940, in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines.

He married Judy A. Askegaard in February 14, 1962 and they later had two sons, Kelly and Kasey Kirts.

He met and married Patricia Poush (Oberhelman) in 1977 and along with his sons and her two Children (Brenda and Jeff Poush) they made a home in Cumming, Iowa.

When he was a teenager, he worked for Hard Drives Paving Company and then later as a Fireman on the Milwaukee Road. In 1961 he enlisted in the Army and served for three years. After his discharge he worked at Miller’s Super Value on Army Post Road and then was hired at Armstrong Tire & Rubber Company (later known as Pirelli Armstrong Tire Corporation and then Titan Tire Company) and in 1994 moved to Firestone Tire Company until his retirement in 2004.

After retiring from Firestone, George and Patti bought a snow bird cottage in Mesa Estates, Mesa Arizona, where they spent their winters traveling and visiting friends and family. George loved his trips to Laughlin Nevada for slot tournaments with Patti, Fishing Trips to Canada with his friends and sons, and traveling to visit his many grand and great grandchildren.

George is survived by his wife, Patti of Manson, Iowa; son, Kelly (Dawn) of Woodward, Iowa; step-daughter, Brenda Henning (Marty) of Augusta, Kansas; son, Kasey (Jessica) of Norwalk, Iowa; and step-son Jeff Poush of Cumming, Iowa; grandchildren, Meagen (Tyler) Lloyd, Miles Kirts, Nathaiel (Kimberly) Kirts, Jacob Kirts, Kasey J Kirts, Brandon (Pam), Tyler, David (Jillian), Luke (Kalie) Henning; Cazsh Poush and (11) great grand kids.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Harold G. Kirts and C. LaVerne (Butler) Kirts along with his brother, Alan R. Kirts of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in the Des Moines/Cumming area. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to American Legion Post #562, PO Box #31, Cumming, Iowa 50061.
