Garvin Ben McDaniels, 77, of Benton, KS, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2023 in Goddard, KS. Private burial will take place at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Winfield. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Garvin was born in Chicasha, OK on August 17, 1945, to the late Aurelia Altice (Dolch) and James McDaniels. He graduated from Douglass High School, received his Bachelor's Degree from WSU, and had been working towards a Master's Degree in Anthropology. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict. There he was exposed to agent orange which left him disabled in his later years. Following his service in the Army, Garvin also served in the U.S. Navy and was a retiree from the Navy. He met his wife Mary Lou (Williams) of Girard, OH on his last tour of duty. They married on July 9, 1988 at the Towanda Methodist Church, Towanda, KS. Following his military service, Garvin was a SRS Collections agent for the State of Kansas. He had previously served as the city superintendent in Andover. He was a member of the Towanda Methodist Church for many years. Garvin enjoyed volunteering for the VA and helping out other veterans. Garvin and Mary Lou also enjoyed their summers in their RV together. He also enjoyed antique cars. Garvin is survived by: his wife, Mary Lou McDaniels; sister, Anne Burton; sister in law, Joyce McDaniels; nephew, Todd; numerous other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; his beloved kitty cat, Puddin-Tat. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ellis McDaniels; brother in law, Jim Burton. Memorial donations may be made to Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center 5500 E. Kellogg Wichita, KS 67218.
