Eris Maxine Brixey, 96, of Augusta, KS, passed away Sunday, December 19, 2021, in Wichita, Kansas. Service 11 a.m. Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta, KS. Maxine was born in Douglas County, Missouri on May 2, 1925, to the late Nona Ann (Philpott) and Floyd Swearengin. She was a graduate of Emporia State University. Maxine taught school for 42 years, teaching in rural schools in Douglas County, Missouri; Towanda, and Augusta, Kansas. She was a member of KNEA, Retired teachers organization, E.S. A. Sorority, Eastern Star, and a long-time member of First Christian Church, Augusta. In 1946, she married Elwood Brixey in Exeter, Missouri. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Wanda McKnight and Bonita Hurst. Maxine is survived by: daughter, Eris Ann Mouton and husband Rene of Kingwood, Tex.; 2 step grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren.
