Eleanor Hoskinson Obituary

Eleanor Louise Hoskinson, 87, of Augusta, KS, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 21, 2021. She was born in Wichita, KS on July 14, 1934 to William Jennings Bryan Phelps and Mary Louise (Williams) Phelps. She was the youngest of four daughters and was raised on a family farm near Bentley, KS. Upon graduating from Mt. Hope High School in 1952 she attended Kansas State University where she met the love of her life, Glenn Hoskinson. They married on August 7, 1955 in Mt. Hope, Kansas and enjoyed 64 wonderful years together. They raised two daughters, Blenda Hoskinson and Connie (Hoskinson) Taylor. In 1959, Glenn and Eleanor established the Hoskinson Animal Clinic which later became The Augusta Animal Clinic. She played an extremely important role supporting Glenn and the veterinary practice.

Eleanor loved the Lord and her family with all of her heart.  She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Augusta. Her love of children was reflected through her involvement in many children's programs and activities in the church. She made it her mission to spread the word of God and to live life fully as a witness to others. Eleanor loved to "mother" and was a natural at caregiving. Her strong and feisty spirit served her well over her 87 years. She had a servant heart, was generous and humble, and devoted her life to her church and family.  She preferred to be in the background, never seeking the limelight, believing her role as supporter was as important as any. Time spent with family in the Rocky Mountains at Cascade Cottages was something she looked forward to every summer. Her sweet smile and optimistic outlook on life will be fondly remembered. She was quick to give a compliment and always turned every negative into a positive.  Eleanor was a wonderful Christian role model and Prayer Warrior. She will be greatly missed.

Eleanor is survived by her daughters Blenda Hoskinson of Winfield, Connie Taylor and husband Greg of Augusta, granddaughters Sarah Lybarger (Eric) of Winfield and Beth Bartholomew (Erik) of Pocatello, Idaho. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Victoria (Jordan), Emily, Eli, Rileah, and Olivia, as well as her sisters, Marilyn Patterson and Nan Boerup and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, her parents, and sisters Shirley Walton and Alice Lee Whitwell.
