Donald "Don" Finlay Obituary

Donald W. Finlay "Don" passed away Saturday, February 19, 2022. 

Don was born on July 9, 1947, in Harveyville, KS to the late Gilbert H. and Naoma J. Finlay. Don was a graduate of Augusta High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1966, serving one year in the Vietnam War.

Don married Loweta (Dean) on August 23, 1969, at First Baptist Church of Augusta. They spent their first year of marriage in Norfolk, VA where Don was stationed following his tour in Vietnam. The couple then moved back to Augusta. Don spent his career in home remodeling and finish carpentry, working for his friend and boss, Jeff Hund of All Seasons Construction. Don was active in First Baptist Church serving in various offices over the years. 

Surviving Don are his wife, Loweta; daughters, Tammy Cox and husband Brad; and Teresa McDonald and husband Terry; and son, Eric Finlay and wife Meghann. Don is also survived by two brothers, Robert L. Finlay and wife Mary of Emporia, KS and Gary D. Finlay and wife Judy of San Antonio, Texas. Also surviving Don are his six grandchildren, Keenan Cox,  Kaylee Cox, Gabrielle McDonald, Brigid McDonald, Rory McDonald and Jackson Finlay; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Kendall Cox. 

Visitation 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2022 at First Baptist Church, Augusta.  Private burial at Elmwood  Cemetery, Augusta. Memorial gifts may be given to First Baptist Church Nex Gen Project, or the Wounded Warrior Project. 

Arrangements are being handled by Headley Funeral Chapel in Augusta, KS.
