Delbert Williams Obituary

Delbert Dale Williams, 95, formerly of Greencastle, MO and a resident of Augusta, KS, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2022. Viewing 10:00 a.m. until service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta, KS. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery Augusta, KS.

Delbert was born in Greencastle, MO on September 9, 1926, to the late Golda Gertude (Daniels) and Millard Francis Williams. On December 24, 1948 he married Beverly Jeanne (Davidson) Williams in Kirksville, MO. She preceded him in death.

Delbert retired from the Hizey Oil and Supply Company where he repaired oil pumps in Augusta, KS. Before working for Hizey's, he was a dedicated mechanic for the Augusta Ford Dealerships. Prior to that he worked at Novinger, MO as a coal miner.

He served overseas in the United States Army as a military police officer during World War II in Okinawa, Japan and in the Philippines.

Delbert enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, nature, garage sales, bargain shopping, and riding his lawn mower. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved collecting clocks, watches, unusual collectibles, and all manner of electrical gadgets and tools. His love for his family was over the top, bringing joy and laughter to us all, an all-out nice guy. Everyone loved Delbert! He would be the first one besides the employees at Dillions whenever he could and then he would make his way to the Walmart to look over all the clearance items. He was at all the garage sales and estate sales in Augusta and El Dorado he could make it too, looking for bargains. And his house was always full of fun and unusual items.

He was a kidney dialysis patient, "The best in the clinic" - the nurses and doctors all said. He drove himself over at 4:30 a.m., 3 times a week and enjoyed the attention he received there.

He enjoyed his home, still cooking for himself, taking care of his lawn, his garden, birds, and animals. He was a family man, a loving father, and grandfather.

Delbert is survived by: his children and their spouses, Candice Simmons and husband Brian of Wichita, Terry Williams and wife Donna of Kountze, TX, Connie Wells and husband Jason of Wichita, Roger Williams and wife Tracey of Kansas City, KS,  and Becky Herold and husband Brad of Augusta; sister, Mildred Grabosh of Davenport, IA; 9 grandchildren and their spouses, Charity (Robert), Joy (Todd), David (Prisca), Lexi (Jason), Clayton (Kensi), Joshua (Roxie), Mallory (Hunter), Paige (Mac), and Brian (Alyssa); 15 great grandchildren and their spouses, Aidan, Elise, James (Jenni), Brianna (Aaron), David, Rachel, Shiloh, Hylie, Everleigh, Blakley, Raine, Sirenity, Justice, Sonie, Jackson, and Elliott; and 4 great-great grandchildren, Alice and Olivia, Samuel and Zakai.
