Benjamin Edward Ketts, 96, of Augusta, KS, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Kansas Medical Center in Andover, KS. The family will hold a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at the Augusta Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Augusta, KS. Burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta, KS.
Ben was born in Billings, OK on October 15, 1925, to the late Gladys Eugenia (Fisher) and William Edward Ketts. Ben's grandparents lived in Hardin, MO (northeast of Kansas City). Ben's dad along with his family moved to Billings, OK from Missouri in 1904 after being flooded out by the Missouri River. His family farmed near Billings, OK until 1937 when they moved to Ralston, OK. On March 23, 1945, while Ben was still in the U.S. Navy, his family moved and purchased a farm near Inola, OK. The farm was formerly owned by his future bride's family, Orletta Plett.
On August 3, 1947 he married Orletta in Ramona, OK in a double ring ceremony with her sister, Betty, and Gale Fletcher. While Orletta attended business college in Tulsa, OK and worked as a bookkeeper for the Amerada Oil Company, Ben attended Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa. In 1949, Ben and Orletta moved to Wichita, KS where Ben was employed at Boeing and Beechcraft for 32 years combined. In 1971, they moved to Douglass, KS and Ben retired in 1981.
Ben and Orletta studied the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses to see what new information they might learn. On April 3, 1982, Ben and Orletta were baptized as Jehovah's Witnesses in El Dorado, KS. Ben held the Bible's promise of those "enduring to the end shall be saved".
Ben is survived by: daughters, Nancy Linette Lehti and husband Eric of Tulsa, OK and Connie Jeanette Johnson of Winfield, KS; two grandsons, Dustin Moore and wife Andrea, and their children Makynze, Milee, and Logan of Winfield, KS; and Brandon Pate and wife Brooke, and their children Landon, Bexley, and Liam of Winfield, KS. Ben was preceded in death by an infant brother, John Daniel Ketts; brother, David Charles Ketts; and wife, Orletta.
The family suggests that memorial donations may be made by planting a tree in memory of Ben Ketts.
