Virginia Lee "Sissy" Matson, 100, of Augusta, KS passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2025 in Wichita. Visitation 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 30, 2025 at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta, KS. Crypt side service 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 31, 2025 at Lakeview Mausoleum, 12100 E. 13th, Wichita, KS. (Main building)
Virginia was born February 16, 1925 in Valley Center, KS to Ido Franklin and Gladys Mae (Lewis) Bright. She grew up and went to school in Valley Center along with her five younger siblings and over the years they all started referring to her as "Sissy" a fond nickname that stayed with her for the duration of her life.
On December 18, 1948 she married Jean L. Matson, and after living in Kechi, KS for a few years they moved to Leon, KS in 1951 where they lived and raised their two children, Ivan and Brenda.
Virginia enjoyed bowling, playing cards, traveling, jigsaw puzzles, and watching baseball, especially her favorite team, the Chicago Cubs.
Virginia was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Jean; son, Ivan Matson; brothers, Charles "Sonny", E.J., Frank, and Verlin Bright; sister, Beverly Cannon.
She is survived by: daughter, Brenda Church and husband Kenny of Andover, KS; one grandson; one great granddaughter; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family; and a wide circle of friends.
