Mary Katherine "Kay" Lanzrath

Mary Katherine "Kay" Lanzrath, 94 years of age, died on Saturday, February 28, 2026. Viewing will take place 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at Headley Funeral Chapel in Augusta, KS. The Rosary Vigil will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2026 and the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2026. Both the Rosary and the Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. James Catholic Church in Augusta, KS. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Augusta. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri on March 12, 1931, the adopted daughter of Joseph and Evelyn (Voress) Hajek. Kay was a homemaker. She was a professional cellist with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra for 40 years and loved classical music. In 1958, she married Ralph A. Lanzrath and together they shared 62 years of married love before his death in 2021. Her Catholic Faith and her family were her highest priorities. She loved to help others and always placed the needs of others before her own needs. She enjoyed gardening and yard work. She loved to travel, especially annual family summer vacations. Kay is survived by her sons: Rev. John Lanzrath and Jerome Lanzrath; grandchildren: Jessica (Eric) Glenn; Leighann Cyrus, Xavier, and Gabriel; great-grandchildren: Kinley and Harper; and numerous nieces and nephews. Kay was preceded in death by her parents; her sons, Leon and David; and her sister, Cecilia Shenold.
