Marjorie Lucile Dixon

Marjorie Lucile Dixon, 94, of Leon, Kansas, went home to her Lord and Savior December 22, 2025 from her home near Leon. She was born on March 30, 1931, the eldest child of Edward Henry and Mary Lucile (Stephenson) Ruckert of Clements, Kansas. She attended Chelsea country school through the 8th grade. She graduated from El Dorado High School in 1949 and from El Dorado Junior College in 1951. She taught in elementary schools for five years at Burns, Gypsum and Goff, Kansas. She maintained many deep friendships from her early years, continuing to correspond with and visit those dear friends throughout adulthood.

She married Thomas M. Dixon on June 1, 1952, having been introduced to him on a blind date by her future sister-in-law, Caroline Dixon. Their marriage spanned more than 73 years. The couple started married life in Seneca, Kansas, where their first two daughters were born. They moved to Salina, Kansas, where a third daughter arrived, and then relocated to Eureka, Kansas, where their youngest daughter was born. In 1971, they moved to Howard, Kansas, living there for eleven years. One of the great joys in her life was helping to plan, design and build their earth-sheltered home nestled in a small hill on their farm near Leon, Kansas. They enjoyed farming and country life from 1982 to the present. The whole family worked on the farm and the girls all learned to stack hay and drive tractors.

Gardening, canning and flowers were a big part of daily fun and work for her. She was an accomplished cook and was well known for her delicious pies. Her lifelong pleasure was playing the piano, mostly by ear, for her own relaxation and enjoyment when no one was around.

Margie, as many knew her, loved the Lord and lived a life of caring and service, teaching her children by word and deed to draw close to Jesus. The family was in church every Sunday if at all possible. They served the Lord in many different ways. Margie enjoyed teaching Sunday School in the youth department, helping in the nursery, serving as a Deaconess and serving on the Mission Committee. She sang alto in the choir and would substitute for the church pianist as needed. She was a member of the Leon Christian Church, the Gideon Auxiliary and chapter DS, P.E.O. She was also active in Quest Club and participated in multiple Bible studies.

Margie was a loving mom, fun grandma, and devoted wife. She was known for her friendliness and love for people. She had a great love for children, and especially her own children and grandchildren. She took them fishing, taught them how to catch grasshoppers for bait, made bows and arrows for the boys, read to the little ones, taught them to roll out pie dough and bake cookies, to play “Pop-eye” on the piano and just spent time with them.

No stranger to hard work, Marjorie was as comfortable pulling weeds and driving a tractor as she was visiting a sick friend or sewing a costume for a church program. She has left an indelible imprint of kindness and good humor on all those whose lives she touched.

She is survived by her daughters, Diane (Dan) Hintz, Carol (Mark) Brinton, Susan (Tom) Graham, Joyce (Jon) Hanner; brother, Hank (Vivian) Ruckert; sister-in-law Ann Carr-Dixon; grandchildren Jon (Candice) Brinton, Nate (Gabriella) Hintz, Joel (Caroline) Hintz, Amanda (Seth) Lickteig, Tom (Aubrey) Graham, Jennifer (Ian) Toomey, and Jessica (Jason) Goodwin; and great grandchildren Ava, Ryan, Ellen, Noah, Milo, Curtis, Jaxon, Ted, Edison and Emmaline.

She is preceded in death by her dear husband, Tom, her parents Ed and Mary Ruckert, her sister Roberta “Bobbie” Burlison, brothers-in-law Vernon Burlison, Robert “Bob” Dixon, Bill Osborne, Blanchard “Mick” Mickel, and sisters-in-law Jody Dixon, Dorothea Osborne and Caroline Mickel.

Services will be held at the Leon Christian Church on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 10:00 am. Family interment will follow at Quito Cemetery, Leon, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Leon Christian Church, 300 N. East St., Leon, KS 67074 or to Gideon's International, P.O. Box 652, El Dorado, KS 67042.
