John Joseph Hanaka

John Joseph Hanaka, 73, of Wichita, KS, passed away Friday, June 13, 2025. Rosary 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2025 and Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2025, both at Holy Savior Catholic Church, Wichita, KS. Burial 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at Calvary Cemetery, Augusta, KS. John was born in Camden, NJ on July 9, 1951, to the late Eleanor Stella (Buszka) and Felix John Hanaka. He retired from parts distribution at Johnson Controls. He was a member of the Machinists Union Lodge 774, District 70. John enjoyed reading books, following the news, and listening to records - often playing air guitar along with them! He especially loved being a father and Papa, and caring for his wife. On June 2, 1979 he married Victoria Marguarite (Szczepanik) Hanaka in Wichita, KS who survives him. He is also survived by: son, Stephen Hanaka and wife Mimi of Lawrence, MA; daughter, Christine Scharnhorst of Wichita, KS; and grandchildren, Raimi and Zoe Scharnhorst. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Hanaka.
