Elmer J. Simon

Elmer J. Simon, 91, of Augusta, KS, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2025. Viewing 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary following at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025 at St. James Catholic Church. Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2025 at St. James Catholic Church, Augusta, KS. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery Augusta, KS.

Elmer was born in Conway Springs, KS on October 29, 1933, to the late Ida Martha (Seiler) and Robert Peter Simon. He served in the U.S. Army. Elmer worked as a truck driver at Knebler Construction and had been a shipping supervisor for Southwest Grease and Oil Company. Elmer also spent many of his years farming. A 4th degree knight with the Knights of Columbus, Elmer was a charter member of the Augusta St. James Council 5328.

On November 8, 1958 he married Alice (Auernheimer) Simon at St. James Catholic Church, Augusta who survives him. He is also survived by: daughter, Sherrill Bailey and husband Lonnie of Wichita; son, Robert Simon of Douglass; daughter, Elaine Simon of Wichita; daughter, Marjorie McClellan and husband Kyle of Mulvane; son, Steven Simon of Washington, D.C.; brothers, Kenneth Simon and wife Sharon of Douglass, and Earl Simon and wife Donna of Augusta; sisters, Betty Carroll of Augusta, and Mary Anderson of Augusta; sisters in law, Ann Simon and Bert Simon; grandchildren, Nathan Bailey, Megan Bailey, Marc Simon, Jaci Simon (Dominik Osburn), Kirsten Simon, Alicia Gibson (Daniel), Simon McClelllan, and Matthew McClellan; great grandchildren, Ava Simon, Allen Simon, Colton Osburn, Aubri Gibson, and Rylann Gibson.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Cletus, LeRoy, Dennis, and Eugene Simon; and sisters Ethel MacKay, Thelma Hoge, JoAnn Heimerman and Doris Proctor. Memorial donations may be made to St. James Catholic Church to be used for the Music Department and sound system, 1012 Belmont Augusta, KS 67010.
