Ed Rubeck, 85, of Augusta, Kansas, passed peacefully on Oct. 5, 2026.
A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2026, and Mass 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 12, 2026 both at St. James Catholic Church, Augusta, KS. Burial will follow Calvary Cemetery, Augusta, KS.
Born in Chicago, IL, he grew up in Brookfield, IL, as the eldest of seven siblings. After graduating from Purdue University, he moved to Wichita for a job at Cessna, where he spent his entire career. Of the several areas he served, his favorite was when he worked as manager of Maintenance Engineering for the Citation X jet. He retired from that position at the age of 58.
Ed had many hobbies, but particularly loved his bonsai collection. He founded the Wichita Area Bonsai Club where he shared his love of the art. He also built his own ultralight aircraft and spent several years happily taking off and landing from his own back yard.
Ed highly valued his Catholic faith, love, and laughter which he shared with everyone he met. He was a devoted family man and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
Ed is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Rubeck; his two daughters, Donna (Jerry) Bennett of Garnett, KS and Anne Rubeck of Overland Park, KS; his sisters, Judy Leary of Falmouth, ME and Karen O'Keefe (Mike) of Stevens Point, WI; his three grandsons, Blake (Sophia), Jacob (Wendee), and Evan (Alexis) Bennett; his great grandchildren, Colton, Eleanor, Grady, Dakota, and Maverick Bennett; and his step great-grandchildren, Tyler and Lane Lord; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: brothers, Robert, Richard, Larry, and infant brother, Thomas Rubeck; sister, Joan Rubeck
