Beloved husband, father and Papa, Donald Wayne Winter, 94, passed away peacefully at home Monday May 18th, 2026. Don was born on August 3rd, 1931, in Lehigh, KS to George Karl and Rachel (Lipps) Winter.
On April 24th, 1960, Don married his best friend Roberta "Bert" Call in Augusta, KS. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in May 1956. After his service, Don worked for Skelly Oil Refinery and co-owned the Augusta Auto Salvage. He enjoyed hunting and golfing, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family. Don was a devoted member of the First Southern Baptist Church for many years as a faithful deacon serving with joy and humbleness.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bert as well as brothers, Marvin, Orwin, Lavern and Charles; sisters, Dorothy Tomlison, Erma Thompson, Norma Lowke and Deloris Long.
Don is survived by: daughter, Kim (Travis) Rice of Smithville, MO; son, Karl (Theresa) Winter of Augusta, KS; sister, Barbara Conyers of Wichita, KS.; grandchildren, Whitney (Stephen) Havelka of Kansas City, MO, Rachael (Patrick) Adams of Kansas City, KS, Karli (Conner) Zaldivar of Wichita, KS, Ryan (Macie) Murie of Kansas City, MO, Chase Winter of Augusta, KS, Jessica (Nolan) Smith of Platte City, MO, Breck Winter of Park City, KS; and great grandchildren, Mila, Benjamin & Sophia Havelka, Ollysen & Sloane Adams, Nora & Ella Zaldivar, Davis Murie, and Deacon Smith. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation services will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by Funeral Services at 11:00 AM both at the First Southern Baptist Church in Augusta, KS. Interment will take place at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta, KS.
The family wishes memorial contributions to be made to First Southern Baptist Church, 2206 Ohio St., Augusta, KS.
Don's humor, kindness and unwavering love for his family will be dearly missed but cherished in the hearts of all who knew him.
