David Brett French

David "Brett" French, 69, of Augusta, KS, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the Harry Hynes Hospice Center inpatient unit at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas.

Funeral Service 11:00 am Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta, KS. Burial will take place at Towanda Cemetery, Towanda, KS. Final gathering will be at Bricks Bar and Grill, 409 State Street, Augusta, KS.

Brett was born in Eureka, KS, on October 8, 1956, to the late Joyce A. (Brizendine) and Lyle D. French.

He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1974 and later graduated with his bachelor's from Ft. Hayes State University.

Brett worked in grocery stores and worked for Dillons for much of his life. Dillons was always on his mind even after retirement. He retired in 2018.

Brett loved all sports, especially all things KU. He looked forward to the start of football season every year for college and Kansas City Chiefs football. KU was his favorite basketball team, with the first weekend of the NCAA basketball tournament as the best weekend of the year. The St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Royals were his favorite baseball teams. Including NASCAR, hockey, golf, and horse races, he had almost year-round sports happiness. He loved playing darts with his friends and was on the bowling team for Bricks Bar and Grill.

On May 27, 2006, he married Roberta S. (Prose) at Botanica in Wichita, KS. She survives. Brett is also survived by his sister, Debbie and Mike Niedens of Great Bend, and brothers, Kerry French of Wichita, KS, and Bart French of Augusta, KS; nephew, Adam Niedens of Great Bend, KS, niece, Cassie and Brenton Dupuis of Pawnee Rock, KS, niece, Jessie and Aaron Oliver of Wichita, KS, and nephew, Sam French of El Dorado, KS; great nieces and nephews, Case Niedens, Macey Niedens, Mason Oliver, Allyson Oliver, Raylie Varner, and Rhett French.

Memorial donations may be made to St. James Catholic School, Augusta, KS, and Turning Point USA (tpusa.com) in care of Headley Funeral Chapel, 813 State St., Augusta, KS 67010.
