Darleen Joyce Wickham was born Dec. 25, 1931, in Palacios, Texas, a small gulf coast shrimp fishing town, one of four children. She attended St. John's College in Winfield, Kansas, where she received a teaching degree and met her first husband, Vic Scholfield. They lived in Augusta, Kansas, where she taught grade school for two years before becoming a mother and homemaker to three children, Roger, Randy and Robinn.
She wedded the love of her life, Jack Miller, on November 27, 1975, and they began a long, devoted marriage, celebrating their 50th anniversary this year.
Darleen, an accomplished artist, produced many works in sculpture as well as paintings. She had an eye for color and beauty, and her soulful paintings of hummingbirds, seascapes and other subjects reflected her own vibrant spiritual life.
Darleen was a devoted grandmother, who with Jack loved hosting sleepovers on her "Magic Carpet" and birthday parties and activities for the grandkids at "Camp Cuz". She was always encouraging her children and grandchildren in their interests and dreams.
She was adored by them for her unconditional, constant love and support.
Darleen's life was deeply grounded in her Christian faith. She and Jack organized several ongoing prayer and worship groups in their home, which led to many deep and meaningful lifelong friendships.
Darleen was preceded in death by parents, Karl Sr. and Lydia Wickham, and sister, Jean.
She is survived by her husband, Jack, and three children: Roger Scholfield and spouse Jaki (Wichita); Robinn Scholfield and spouse Taylor Pruitt (Parkville, MO); Randy Scholfield and spouse Karla (Santa Fe, NM) and one step-daughter, Wendy Hudson (Denver); she had 9 grandchildren-Connor, Anna, Maddy, A.J., Kelsey, Jacob, Jordan, Hannah and Nicole-and 4 great grandchildren: Cooper, Parker, Colin and Lucia.
