Danny R. Small

Danny R. Small, 83, of Augusta, KS, passed away Friday, July 4, 2025, at home. A celebration of life will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2025, at the Haverhill Christian Church, Augusta, KS. Inurnment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery Augusta, KS. Danny was born in Wewoka, Oklahoma on July 16, 1941, to the late Marjorie Elaine (Rutherford) and George "Pat" Loraine Small. He began by working at the Augusta Department of Safety and then worked as an inspector for the State of Kansas Fire Marshall Office. Danny then worked as a supervisor at WSU mechanical maintenance where he retired. He was a charter member of the Walnut Valley Muzzleloader's Club and served as President of the NML of Kansas. Danny volunteered his time for the Augusta Fire Department and also taught Hunter's Safety. On May 6, 1961, he married Virginia M. (Smith) Small at the First Christian Church of Augusta and she survives him. He is also survived by: daughter, Rita Lewis and husband Jay of Douglass; son, David Rusty Small of El Dorado; granddaughter, Stephanie McCrary and husband Sean; great grandchildren, Elijah, Ben and Violet McCrary; half-brother, Rick McNiel of Roanoke, VA; and half-sisters, Casandra Allen of Arkansas and Michelle Norrik of Wichita. He was preceded in death by his brother, George Small; sister, Patricia Lies; half-brother, William McNiel; half-sisters, Candice Watkins, and Debra Cornwall; and numerous nieces and nephews.
