Carolyn Marie Buchanan

Carolyn Marie Buchanan (Rogers), 82, of Augusta, KS, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

Carolyn was born on May 6, 1943, in Bee Branch, AR to Delmer and Edna Rogers. She later moved to Lawrence, KS, where she attended a one room schoolhouse and spent much of her early life.

During her early adult years she was married to Thomas Richard Buchanan. While he served in the United States Air Force, they spent a short time living in California before returning to Kansas, living in Vinland and later Bucyrus. After those years, Carolyn returned to Lawrence where her parents lived and where she raised her only son.

While in Lawrence, Carolyn worked at TRW, and oil well cable company. Determined to continue building a better future with her family, she returned to school to study office administration and accounting. She later worked for several years at Lawrence Paper Company before retiring.

About twenty years ago, Carolyn moved to Augusta, KS to be closer to her son and his growing family.

Carolyn had a gift for creating a warm home. She loved plants and flowers and had a natural talent in the kitchen, always trying new recipes and making family favorites like her goulash for the grandkids. Her hands were rarely still. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, sewing, and cross stitching gifts for the people she loved. She was also a devoted fan of Kansas Jayhawks basketball and rarely missed the chance to watch a game.

Even in her final moments, Carolyn was doing what she enjoyed most, working on a cross stitch piece for her soon to be great grandson, Henry, expected later this spring.

She also had a special place in her heart for children. During her retirement years she babysat for several families, sharing her warmth and patience with many little ones who came through her home.

Carolyn was a faithful member of St. James Catholic Church in Augusta.

She is survived by her son, Sean Buchanan and daughter in law, Jody of Rose Hill, KS; her grandchildren, Thomas (Amanda), Marcus (fiancée, Allison), Stephan (Makenzi), Daniel, Adam, and Caroline; her brother, Bill Rogers of Wellsville, KS; and her great grandson, Henry, expected later this spring.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Delmer and Edna Rogers; her brothers, Clarence Rogers and Bob Rogers; and her ex-husband Thomas Richard Buchanan.

A Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2026 and a Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2026, both at St. James Catholic Church, Augusta, KS. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Augusta, KS.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. James Catholic Church, 1012 Belmont Ave. Augusta, KS 67010.

Carolyn will be remembered for her kindness, her strength as a mother, and the love she shared through the simple things, a home cooked meal, a handmade blanket, or time spent caring for others. The memories she created and the love she gave her family will be carried forward for generations.
