Billy Gene Smith

Billy Gene Smith, 80, of Augusta, KS, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2026 in Wichita. Visitation 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. and service 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 both at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta, KS. Graveside service 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 3, 2026 at Ft. Scott National Cemetery, Ft. Scott, KS. Billy was born in Ft. Scott, KS on December 13, 1945, to the late Ella Fern (Ellis) and Pearl Franklin Smith, and had one brother, Darwin Smith. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during Vietnam. He later worked as a long haul truck driver. He loved animals especially horses, and was always caring for a stray cat that he found. He is survived by: sons, Raymond Dean Smith and wife Denise, Bill Smith, Jr. and wife Tonya, Michael Smith and wife Tiphanie, Patric Smith and wife Payton, Richard Smith and wife Kathryn, and Travis Smith and wife Hope; daughters, Trechia Guthrie, and Mischell Smith; 17 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Smith.
