Richard LeJuerrne Obituary

Richard Joseph LeJuerrne, age 68, passed away peacefully at his home in Augusta, KS on Tuesday, April 2, 2019.

He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Carol LeJuerrne; son, Richard "Rick" LeJuerrne, Jr. and wife Martha of Topeka, KS; daughter, Shelly Anderson and husband Lance of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Bella, Caroline, and Joe LeJuerrne, Natalie, Josie, and Pierce Anderson; brother, Kenneth LeJuerrne and wife Jenny of Wichita, KS; beloved dog, Scout.

Richard was born in Wichita, KS on December 20, 1950. During his childhood, he lived in Seattle, WA, St. Louis, MO, Macon, GA, and Wichita, KS. His family settled in Wellington, KS. His father, Roland Joseph LeJuerrne "Joe", mother, Rosie LeJuerrne, and sister, Connie Jones preceded him in death.

Richard graduated from Wellington High School, class of 1968. He married Carol (Hancock) on August 2, 1968. Together they celebrated 50 1/2 years of marriage. Richard's work ethic started at age fourteen working for the lumberyard. He then worked for his father's company Lamar Electric-Air in all aspects of aviation.  Later he had the position of CEO of Lamar Electro-Air and Triumph Aerospace. His career led him to own LeJuerrne Development and Halibrand.

Richard had a passion for owning and restoring vintage airplanes, classic cars, and motorcycles. As a pilot he flew to many fly-ins around the country. The summers were spent sailing his catamaran at Cheney Lake with friends and family.

Richard was previously city councilman and the youngest mayor of Wellington, KS. As a pilot he served on the Wellington Airport Authority. He was past president of Little League Football, Bank director of Security State Bank, Builder and owner of Super C Convenience Store Complex, Developer of Shadybrook land development. A life-long resident of Wellington, Richard and Carol had recently moved to Augusta to be near family.

A celebration of life will be held at 1045 State St., Augusta, KS at the home of Richard and Carol LeJuerrne on Saturday, April 6, 2019 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Memorial donations to Wellington Humane Society P.O. Box 494, Wellington, KS 67152.
