John L. Wilson, Sr., 84, of Augusta, passed away,
Saturday, January 3rd, 2009. Visitation 5-7 Tuesday at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Service 1 pm on Wednesday, January
7th, 2009 at Hope Community Church, Andover. John was born in Gravette, Arkansas on June 9, 1924; the son of the late
Dan and Maggie (Mauhren) Wilson. He retired as a fork lift operator from Boeing after 27 years. John served in the U.S. Army
as a Cpl during WW II and was a member of the Augusta American Legion and VFW as well. On May 2, 1946 he married Imogene (Lackey)
in Wichita and she survives. He is also survived by: daughters, Peggy Brunton (Steve); Kathy Chesnut (Denny) both of Wichita;
Jackie Schmidt (Alan) of Augusta; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson. He was preceded in
death by: son, John L. Wilson, Jr., 3 sisters 1 brother, and 1 great grandson. Memorials to the Augusta American Legion or
VFW.
Joe Spain, 55, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday,
December 30th, 2008. Viewing with family present 5:00 to 7:00 pm with Rosary immediately following at 7:00 pm Friday at Headley
Funeral Chapel, Augusta, KS. A Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am Saturday, January 3rd, 2009 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic
Church, Andover, KS. Burial will be at Garrison Cemetery, Haverhill. Joe was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky on January 28,
1953; the son of the late Edward Earl and Elsie Corine (Tarrents) Spain. He graduated from Hopkinsville High School and worked
on a tobacco farm before moving to Wichita. Joe had been an assembler for Beech Aircraft and a truck driver for M. Bruenger
Trucking. His real joy was his family and raising Beefalo cattle as a rancher. On September 25, 1981 he married Becky (Burns)
in Wichita and she survives. He is also survived by: a daughter, Amanda Tice and husband Dallas of Augusta; brothers, Daniel
Spain and wife Becky of Smyrna, TN; and Roy Spain of Hopkinsville, KY; sisters, Mary Carter and husband Bobby of Hopkinsville,
KY; Beverly Bormann and husband Wayne, Sr. of Valley Center; and a grandson, Colin Tice. He was preceded in death by
a sister, Ruby McGar. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the American Heart Association.
David E. Agard, 72, of Andover, went home to
be with the Lord, Thursday, December 18, 2008. Viewing 1-8 Monday with family to greet friends from 6-8 at Headley Funeral
Chapel. Service 10 am Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at Faith Baptist Church, Andover. Graveside service 1:30 at Piedmont Cemetery.
David was born in Piedmont, Kansas on February 8, 1936; the son of Edmond and Verna (Wade) Agard. He retired as an expeditor
from Boeing after 49 years. On February 5, 1977 he married Marsha A. (Drinnen) at Faith Baptist Church in Andover and she
survives. He is also survived by: sons, Eric Agard and wife Katie; and Matt Agard and wife Amanda both of Wichita; mother,
Verna Agard of Andover; sisters, Loretha Powers and husband Cecil of Andover; Nadine Hancock and husband Dale of Wichita;
and Arlene Hall of Sedan; grandchildren Elaina, Jonathan, Elizabeth, and Emma. He was preceded in death by a son Luke and
his father, Edmond. Memorials to Faith Baptist Church, Andover.
Betty Lou Ruggles, 84, of Augusta, passed away, Saturday,
December 13th, 2008. Viewing 1-7 pm Tuesday at Headley Funeral Chapel. Service 2 pm Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at the First
Christian Church, Augusta. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta. Betty was born in Augusta, Kansas on July 12,
1924; the daughter of the late Fred Eugene and Hattie May (Bell) Chalmers. She was a homemaker who sold Avon for over 18 years.
She was also a member of First Christian Church, Augusta, DWF and Hypatia Club. On April 11, 1942 she married Donald Ruggles
in Winfield and he survives. She is also survived by: sons, Larry Ruggles and wife Lorene of Scottsdale, AZ; Paul Ruggles
and wife Karen of Bellingham, WA; Chris Ruggles and wife Diane of Augusta; daughter, Bonnie Ruggles of Augusta; brother, Glen
Chalmers and wife Joyce of Beaumont, TX; sister, Ruth Briggs and husband Jim of Peoria AZ; grandchildren, Michelle Ruggles,
Joe Summers, Patricia Mallory, Katlyn Greenley, Donna Trillo, Kim Garrett, Andrea and Susan Ruggles, Ann Marie Beaulieu, Vickie
Salisbury, Amy and Justin Steele, Brent Ruggles and Jamie Klem; and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a
daughter, Marilyn Potts. Memorials to the First Christian Church, Augusta.
Ruby "Fern" Kerns, 90, of Augusta, went to be with
her Lord on Tuesday, December 9th, 2008. Visitation 1-6 with family present to greet friends from 4-6 on Friday, Dec12 and
services 1 pm Saturday, December 13, 2008 all at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta. Fern
was born in Centralia, Oklahoma on September 5, 1918; the daughter of the late Francis Marion and Mary Stylis (Darbrow) West.
She retired from Cessna after 17 years and she worked at the Augusta bowling alley. She married Ted on Jan. 7, 1935.
They were blessed with four boys and two girls. She is survived by: sons, Oliver Kerns (Felipa) of Augusta; and Ron Kerns
(Darla) of Goddard; daughters, Louetta "Faye" Taber of El Dorado; and Rosetta "Rose" Rodriguez of Augusta; grandchildren,
Terry Kerns, Patricia Ridenour, Debra Mabry, April Harless, Gary Taber, Angie Drouillard, Brian Rodriguez, Paula Peffly, Christina
Metcalf, and Jennifer Leasure; great grandchildren, Kerry Kerns, Timothy Mabry, Joshua Mabry, Haley Harless, Johnny Lee Taber,
Taylor Metcalf, Madison Schulte, Sydney Drouillard, Rylee Drouillard, Mallory Rodriguez, Zachary Rodriguez, Shelbi Peffly,
Levi Peffly, Seth Peffly, Laura Peffly and Sarah Grace Peffly. She was preceded in death by husband, Ted: sons, Floyd and
Francis Marion Kerns; brothers, Marion and John; twin brother, Frank; sisters Lula Mae and Sylvania Cole; and a granddaughter,
Patty Kerns. Family suggests donations to Arthritis Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
Phillip A. "Jack" Anderson, Sr., 73, of Augusta,
passed away, Friday, December 5th, 2008. Rosary 5:30 Monday and a Mass will be celebrated at 10am on Tuesday, December 9th,
2008 both at St. James Catholic Church, Augusta. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta. Phillip was born in Circleville,
Ohio on July 24, 1935; the son of the late William and Edith (Young) Anderson. He retired as a machinist from Boeing after
34 years and had served in the U.S. Marines Corps. On November 27, 1958 he married Mary (Simon) at St. James Catholic
Church. In addition to his wife he is survived by: sons, Phil Anderson Jr. and wife Janet of Augusta; Tom Anderson and wife
Jesse of El Dorado; Bill Anderson of Augusta; Dan Anderson and wife Renee of Augusta; Rick Anderson and husband Stephanie
of Augusta; daughters, Mary McClure and husband Chris of Augusta; and Deb Maness and husband Luck of Leon; brothers, Jerry
Anderson of Simi Valley, CA; Bill Anderson of Ohio; Don Anderson and wife Kay of Ohio; sister in law Shirley Anderson of Ohio;
21 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Anderson. Memorials to Harry Hynes
Memorial Hospice or St James Building Fund.
Joseph J. Schaefer, 89, of Augusta, formerly of St.
Louis, passed away, Thursday, December 4th, 2008. Viewing Sunday 4 to 7 with Rosary beginning at 7 pm at Headley Funeral Chapel.
The family will greet friends at beginning at 6 pm. Graveside service 11 am on Monday, December 8th, 2008 at Elmwood
Cemetery. Those attending should use the 12th street entrance. Joe was born in St. Louis, Missouri on April 6, 1919; the son
of the late Henry and Mary T. (Powers) Schaefer. He was a Machinist at Alumax and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Joe served
in the U.S. Army during WWII also. On December 31, 1941 he married Margie (Dunaway) at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. She preceded
him in death on October 23, 2003. A son, Richard; and brothers, John, Russell, and Lawrence preceded him in death as well.
He is survived by; daughter, Kathryn T. Schaefer, CSJA of Augusta; son, Dennis P. Schaefer and wife Mary of Marblehead,
Mass.; sister, Adel Fox of High Ridge, Missouri; grandchild, Adam Schaefer; and numerous friends and staff at LakePoint Nursing
Center. Family request mass donations or memorials to LakePoint Activity Fund.
